How often have you needed to amend a SMALL error on Twitter but had to first delete the tweet and re-upload it?
Twitter has officially started the first phase of the roll-out of its new tweet editing tool after receiving millions of requests over many years. Twitter Blue subscribers in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can now edit their tweeted text for 30 minutes after posting.
You’ll receive a notification letting you know that you can edit your tweet within the following 30 minutes after you’ve posted it. Within that time, users are permitted to alter the original tweet up to five times.
You can edit a tweet by clicking on the three dots menu in the tweet’s top right corner. Then, you’ll click “Edit Tweet” and make the necessary adjustments.
Once a tweet has been edited, a new “Edited” icon will be added to it in-stream so that everyone can see the change.

By tapping on the “Last edited” icon in the tweet detail screen, users will also be able to see the whole edit history (i.e. the expanded tweet display that you can access by tapping on a tweet).
Overall, it seems like a good solution – which it probably should considering Twitter has been working on it for more than a year (or more). Additionally, it seems as though Twitter’s worries about incorrectly interpreted tweets as a result of editing have been exaggerated. This isn’t because individuals won’t alter their retweeted tweets, but rather because it’s unlikely to become a significant problem.
Since years, the majority of other platforms have provided editing and embedding possibilities, and it has worked out perfectly. Even though tweets are shorter, there doesn’t seem to be much more of a chance that this will become a widespread issue.
In either case, Twitter’s fixes appear to address the main issues. It will be fascinating to see how Twitter Blue subscribers use the feature and whether or not we start to notice a significant increase in the number of edit icons in tweet streams.
